city of gold

I recently went to Johannesburg for the first time in the 23 years I've been living in this country.
I have never had any reason to go until now..
I mean there is no sea or mountains, why would i want to go?

But my expectations were completely exceeded.
I was quite overwhelmed by the massive place & its so green.
I found out that the city is the biggest man made forest in the world

crab claws

This weekend I was blessed with a change of scenery.
New surroundings, landscapes & experiences.
Ash, her family and I temporarily moved into a trailer park home for two days.

It was our 5 month anniversary.

We had long conversations as we strolled along the white beach on our doorstep, snuggled next to each other during the cold night, played cards, got high, watched the sunset, drank tea and wine and swam in ice cold water of the Atlantic ocean.

magical.

I have taken a break from shooting for a while..
I need a change of scenery, something fresh.
So until then, im not taking pictures.
But hopefully that change will come soon...

I found these engaging videos shot for education first.
I love the beautifully crafted type overlayed over the magical scenes.

If anyone is interested in collaborating on something like this, let me know! :)

A tribute to the beautiful city.

jr

JR is a genius.
He shoots the most amazingly simple black & white portraits of African faces that are full of emotion and character. And best of all is that he posts up massive prints of them on infrastructures around the towns and cities that these people live in.
The enormous images makes such a contrasted impact on the landscapes. It is beautiful.
He makes comments on people's lives in 3rd world situations and their human rights. He shot a project called "Woman", which underlines the dignity of women who are often the targets of conflicts.

I love his work.
